The Kerr's and their '68 Shelby GT 350
In February of 1969, Larry Kerr bought this 1968 390 GT Fastback Mustang, from of all places a Chevy dealership in Ogden, Utah. Larry was stationed in Europe at this time and the U.S. Air Force shipped cars back then so off the Mustang went and the Kerrs had a sporty mode of transportation around Europe.
The Kerrs and their Mustang then spent four years stationed in Turkey where Larry and the car got a fair amount of press coverage when they swapped the car's 390 cubic inch motor for a 410 inch motor built for speed.
The Air Force then decided to make a change and the Kerr family was transferred to Okinawa, Japan. With that 410 under the hood that island must have seemed a bit small for a car that was built to run. Fortunately the Kerrs were able to bring the car back home to the west where it has plenty of space to run and run it does…Larry has put over half a million miles on this Mustang! Mr. Ford would be proud!
Since returning to the states the Mustang has been through many configurations and the Kerrs have owned several other Mustangs but the car they always wanted was a Shelby GT 350. As a retired serviceman, the purchase of a Shelby Mustang would be a giant pocket drainer so the Kerrs decided to turn their 390 into a perfect Shelby replica. What you see here is the result and what a beautiful car it is.
