Kevin Mayabb's '51 Buick Kustom

4 Door Sedan to 2 Door Roadster

(from Kevin) I found my Buick in San Fernando Valley in Southern California in the summer of 2000. Not able to buy it at the time (on leave from Fort Stewart, GA). I drove home thinking about it everyday. As I reenlisted in the army for Fort Irwin, CA, I knew I could finally buy it. So on Feb. 09, 2001 I drove down with a trailer and towed my baby home.

Work started almost right away. I removed all the dirt, trash, and 4 rats’ nests from the car.On December 31, 2001 I drove the car for the 1st time (15 feet backwards and had to slam it into park because I had no brakes) Over the next few months the car started to be a driver. The Buick attended its 1st show in April 02 in Lancaster, Ca. Over the next 2 years the car changed a little on the out side but the cars’ motor and frame were changed to a 1973 Olds. The frame was cut and made 10 inches longer and the 350 Olds was pushed back 6 inches in the frame. The car has been lowered in the front and air bags in the rear make it sit in the grass.

The summer of 04 I started changing the Buick’s exterior. I molded front headlights; ford 97-2000 truck tail lights, welded and molded back doors, windows, bumpers and rear fenders. In June of 04 the Buick became topless. After a car show my little boy said he was not feeling good in the back seat, and I could smell exhaust in the car. When we got home he got out and vomited, the next morning I cut the top off with a sawzall. The rest was just fine tuning my flat black bomb into what it is today
